A one-day, practically geared seminar designed to empower and motivate church leaders in Australia in developing sustaining mission and development programs in a 21st century context.
Taking its launch pad from the acclaimed book When Helping Hurts by Corbett and Fikkert, this Just Leadership Seminar goes deep into more than 40 years of mission and development experience of TEAR Australia and draws from that critical learnings and lessons for Christian leaders in Australia today. The seminar moves from the foundational concept of poverty, through principles of relief and development, to exploring strategies of lasting change. By the end of the day’s program you will be able to;
- Define and understand the changing face of poverty in the world today
- Understand how your church’s mission program can partner the poorest of the poor in the world today to alleviate poverty
- Discern programs and methodologies to connect with tat do alleviate poverty without hurting the poor
- Learn concrete strategies for leading and inspiring your church in mission today towards lasting, sustainable, Kingdom outcomes.
Matthew Maury – has been the National Director of TEAR Australia since 2009. With over 20 years experience involved in Christian International development work across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, Matthew is passionate about helping the church achieve healthy, life-giving partnerships as it works across economic and cultural boundaries and fulfils the vision of building a just and compassionate world.
Phil Wilkerson - is TEAR Australia's International Program Coordinator. He has been in this position for the past 5 years, but has had a long vocation with TEAR in many different roles. Phil continues to be inspired by TEAR's partner agencies as they work together with local communities to strengthen relationships and overcome poverty. In recent years he has spent time observing the work of partners responding to the food crisis in Kenya and Somalia, and the the long term development work of partners in India, Afghanistan, Uganda and Nepal. From 1996 to 2001, Phil lived and worked in Vietnam and Burma.
Tracy Lauersen - is the Senior Associate Minister of the St Hilary’s Network and the Director of the Peter Corney Training Centre which trains and equips people in the broader church. She grew up in Sydney and trained at Sydney Missionary and Bible College. Tracy has experience in School Chaplaincy and parish ministry and a background in Professional Training prior to going into ministry. She is the author of The Final farewell: Studies in John’s gospel and is a past recipient of Victoria’s Multicultural award for her work with sudanese refugee’s.
